Peoples Choice Award & Silver Medal For John King Brain Tumour Foundation Garden
A garden that will change livesWe are delighted to have won the ‘Peoples Choice Award; Best show garden and a Silver Medal at Hampton Court Garden Festival 2022 for an imagined section of the new roof garden at the Atkinson Morley Wing of St Georges Hospital in Tooting. The project was led by Rhiannon one of our talented Landscape Architects and the ‘John King Brain Tumour Foundation’ who fundraise to buy equipment and look after the roof garden at the hospital. Garden Club London have sponsored the existing garden for a number of years and have long had ambitions to upgrade the space to provide more shaded seating and planting for patients, NHS staff and their families to enjoy the space, relax and recover.
The garden has only been possible with the help of our generous suppliers and allocation of Garden Club Londons annual charitable giving and volunteer days. The ambition is to completely upgrade the facilities at the Atkinson Morley Wing to provide a sustainable and flexible space that will allow areas for peace and relaxation, for doctors to hold sensitive conversations with patients and also more open spaces for families to meet and NHS staff to host training sessions and events outside. Beyond this upgrade, we are now working on plans to transform a second area of the hospital roof which is currently a blanc concrete expanse into a ‘forest in the sky’ adjacent to the ICU ward.
