Garden Club London scoop National Landscape Principal Award and Special Design & Build Award
Garden Club London have scooped two of the most prestigious awards in the landscaping and horticulture industry at the National Landscape Awards by the British Association of Landscape Industries.
The Floating Pocket Park project at Merchant Square in Paddington won the principle award in the schools and community development category.
The project was also selected out of all entries in the competition for special recognition and received the judges special award for design and build.
This ‘garden’ of interlocking pontoons has created an entirely original communal space that is having the desired effect of bringing residents from the local community, as well as office/retail workers and tourists, into Merchant Square for relaxation and public events. The contractor worked closely with with marine engineers on the design to achieve the correct buoyancy for the structure and then created a beautiful outdoor space. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and the artificial grass, containers with herbaceous planting and semi-mature trees, decking, seating, lighting and a covered pergola area have all been expertly installed by the contractor.
“Covering approximately one-third of the Paddington Basin in Merchant Square, the floating pocket park provides an innovative and hugely popular solution to the client brief for a high quality public amenity space for residents, workers and visitors. The design and subsequent construction of the pocket park, demonstrates the contractors ability to innovate and to complete landscaping works, however unusual the location, to an exceptionally high standard.”
